Rationale

A teaching perspective
These haiku were composed within the constraints of social media. This demonstrates the value of limitations as an aspect of creativity, and the motivational power of social media and online publishing.

Cal is sought-after practitioner of student-centred 'play based' learning in which the learner is active and centre, in much the same way that short-form poetry puts the reader 'in the driver's seat'. Cal believes that rather than teaching students to write and create from scratch students should consciously appropriate form, language and structure from everyday texts, as well as from the masters. As the teacher, Cal directs students towards the function of language, informed by research into applied linguistics and Systemic Functional Grammar. Student writers make choices towards achieving affects appropriate to purpose and audience when constructing texts.

Cal hopes wealth of material here demonstrates the value of short form poetry in developing disciplined writing for all ages and year levels
