London

Haiku inspired by a brief visit to London

Simulated dawn
Desert dust on a domed roof
This holding pattern

Midnight breakfast yawn
Salvador takeoff Dali
World Clock apps melting

Ranks of red chimneys
Limescale up the kettle spout
Brexit eulogies

Nasty looking fence
Heavy cloud brings drifting rain
Engineering work

Crystal Palace Road
Transport networks terminate
In an antique land

Shades of HG Wells
Over East Dulwich hedgerows
The Shard menaces

Night out in London
Shot glass of euphoria
Pint glass of delays

SE23
Orange light spreads to treetops
Trains running on time

Tube millenials
Switch between devices
Change at Waterloo

Fog and filthy air
Where's the place? Upon the heath!
Hurly-burly's done

One mustn't grumble
Let us go then , you and I
And get etherised

Covent Garden sells
Painted drawings by Bob Dylan
Got a lot of nerve
Orange Sainsburys Bag
Stand behind the yellow line
Dead fox on the tracks

Hot day in Hyde Park
Passing the Speke monument
Looking for water

Jungles of rosehip
Gunwhales polished by wild hands
A robin's egg sky

This longest of days
The air sticky with summer
A giant oat bar

Tottenham Court Road
Banshees of the underground
The same empty stare

Ice cream and reggae
Black man in a blacker hat
Humvee Limousine

That's urban jungle
Spotted Rudyard Kipling's plaque
By Gordon's Wine Bar

Oliver Cromwell
Chops off the head of the king
Where the Civil War's been

Upon Westminster Bridge

Doesn't get better
Anywhere on the planet
Can't go past it

At Greenwich

For once in my life
I'm pretty sure where I am
And what time it is

Tower Hamlets
Woman begging on the tube
Apologetically

Docklands light rail
Tracks that hauled the spoils of war
A mixed race couple

Trafalgar Square crowds
Hipster with a stressed guitar
Rips through Little Wing

Everywhere you go
you always take the weather with you
Except on England..

Skyline lampost shines
Neighbour spinning Metheny
Wind. A leaden sky

A  drowsy numbness
As if of hemlock I had drunk
In need of Coffee

Guy's Hospital-
Joint plaque to Keats and Henry Stephens

Romantic types and
Their drug buddies end up at
Some Guy's hospital

Nutmeg pine and lime
Needles of Atlas Cedar
Rear end of a duck

Met my nemesis
Four pints of punk IPA
Stand clear, doors closing
