Bob Dylan Project
|
This project inspired by friends celebrating Bob's 75th birthday with Dylanfest.
Obviously there was a lot of competition for the classics, and as latecomers my bandmates and I were compelled to search for some less predictable numbers. Short of rehearsal time I started home recording to get down lyrics and changes, and here we are. The beauty of a good cover is that you can make over a tune so much that it eventually calls for a new melody and lyrics. Below is my track "Never say Never" inspired by "The Man in Me." |
Never say never againThe progression is based on the "Man in Me". The tempo, arrangement, melody and lyrics are mine. I'm inspired, too, by the sort of instrumentation Dylan seemed to be reaching for in the eighties.
Don't fall apart on me tonight
A track that instantly takes me back to the formative year I discovered it. Right about the time you could pick up cheap vinyl because people were dumping theirs to re-buy their collections on CD. Suckers. Gosh this track is long. But still my idea of romance. Bob's at his best when he's cornered an imaginary woman and gets down to sweet-talking her. Cheesy, and at times a little weird but forgivably so. Anyway I've tried to put a bit of a dance anthem vibe to it. |
